Canadian comedian Mae Martin opens up about, well, everything! From why she was banned from Second City to her bleakest comedy show in Edinburgh, why she feels gender should be fluid and her stint in rehab.

She also shares her regrets on making her Dad cry, whether there are downsides to having a fluid sexual orientation and why she risked everything for comedy. The conversation explores whether performing comedy is an addiction, the science of cymatics and just what is going on with gender.

Fabien Maman in Mae Martin's episode of The Gray Escape on Gender

“Sound Therapy: “treatment based on the finding that human blood cells respond to sound frequencies by changing color and shape, and the hypothesis that therefore sick or rogue cells can be healed or harmonized by sound. The therapy was developed and researched by French musician and acupuncturist Fabien Maman.”

In this episode, Mae questions whether banana picking is the world’s most dangerous job. I did not actually find support for this theory, however, I did find these interesting (and disturbing) articles about the horrors workers face when farming bananas! First, Banana Blood and second, Chiquita Bananas of Death. There have even been occurrences of shoppers facing dangers when simply buying bananas in the grocery store!
